Busting common myths on business funding

At the end of last year, 53% of SMEs reported that they were borrowing more than they had before the pandemic: 23% has started borrowing, 18% had taken on additional borrowing and 11% were making more use of existing facilities. In fact, 2022 saw business lending reach higher levels than ever before if we exclude 2020 and unique business interruption Government lending circumstances.* And yet, there are still many misconceptions embedded in many business owners’ minds about the power of borrowing. We’re now turning the spotlight on some of the most common funding myths that might be holding business owners back from meeting their ambitions with asset-based funding.

MYTH: Do only struggling businesses need to use business funding?

It’s actually the opposite. Keeping moving towards set goals, whatever they may be, is the lifeblood of business success, and that requires constant cashflow. And what helps prevent disruption to cashflow? Securing access to liquidity through strategic funding.

Savvy businesses know that the cost of business funding can pale into insignificance when you look at the potential return it can deliver. We find the businesses who come to us are far from businesses who are struggling, but businesses who are looking for a funding partner who can help support their ambitions. MYTH: Is it harder to get funding in today’s economic climate?

MYTH: Does business funding take time to approve?

It can, but it shouldn’t.
